The Aumann - Maine

We moved from New Hampshire to Maine 4 years ago, but we really moved just 1 town over! Our town is right on the border of Maine and NH, so we get to enjoy the best of both states. We have both mountains and beaches close by. Jesse is 12, Seth is 9 (10 soon!), and Cassie is 8. Jesse is homeschooled, and we hope the other 2 will be soon. They like playing soccer every fall, and they enjoyed taking a fencing class this past spring. We're starting to run and walk together as a family with a goal of completing a 5K together this fall! The facts on our postcards came from Jesse's Maine studies unit this spring. We had more info than could fit on the postcard, so please visit http://TheAumanns.blogspot.com for some more interesting facts and links!

New York - The Learner Family

I am originally from Queens, New York. I moved out to California 6 years ago with my husband. We have one daughter who will be turning 4 in May and I've been busy planning for her birthday. Soon after, we will visit my parents in NY to celebrate Mother's Day. We're looking forward to sight-seeing and spending time with friends and family.

I am currently homeschooling our preschooler and love all the special moments we share. I blog about our adventures, discoveries, and learning through play. My specialty is elementary mathematics so I try to share at least one math activity every Monday's. We also do science on Sunday's. Feel free to stop by for some fun activities at Joyful Learner!

Virginia - The Mason Family

We are the Mason family. Currently, we live in Richmond, Virginia, but we are a military family and have lived in many places all over the US and overseas. Jack is nearly 7 and is a first grader. Emma is 3 1/2 and goes to preschool. Jack likes Lego and Emma really likes bugs! Helen, Jack and Emma's mom, is a writer; and Robert, Jack and Emma's dad, is a pilot and lives in the Netherlands for his work. We are enjoying getting to know our home state again and learning about all the places we have not lived.

The Waide Family - Pennsylvania

I am currently "homeschooling" my 3 year old and 21 month old girls and we have one precious one on the way any day. I also have 3 older children from a previous marriage (2 of whom live with us) and 4 step children (all of whom live with their mom). They all go to public school. I have a small background in Montessori, having worked as an assistant group supervisor at a local Montessori for 5 years. So, I have started introducing some Montessori work in addition to lessons on the letters/sounds and everyday math. We love taking walks around town (our town is only 1 mile around) and listening to Raffi. I blog about our activities at www.totsandme.blogspot.com.

The Felker Family - Delaware

Jayson, Dalton, Landon and Maddox live in Delaware with their mom and dad and 2 older brothers. They have an older sister who is in college in Idaho. Their dad works for an aerospace company (he works on airplanes!) and their mom stays home and homeschools them. Jayson, Dalton and their older siblings were all born in California, but the family moved to Delaware in 2002 for a job transfer. Landon and Maddox were both born in Delaware.
The family stays busy with school, church, Boy Scouts, and little league. When at home, the boys enjoy jumping on the trampoline and riding bikes.

Postcard Swap - Join Us!

How it works: 50 families (one from each state) will swap postcards over the next year. Each state will have their own week and will send out 49 postcards, one to each state, during that week. We will go in alphabetical order of the states. At the end of 50 weeks we will all have received a postcard from 49 other states!

At my house, we plan on putting up a large map of the United States, and connecting each postcard that we receive to it’s corresponding state.

The postcards will be somehow themed about the state that you live in (I know I see state postcards all of the time at places like Walgreens and gas stations, but you could feel free to make your own, as well!) On the back of the postcards, I was thinking that your family could just write either a fun fact about your state or why you like living in your state.

To join: email me at adventures and gapcswap @ gmail dot com OR peila (at) harbornet (dot) com

If you are interested, but your state is not on the list of states we need, send me an email anyway. With enough interest I will put together a second (or more?) swap. I don't want anyone to miss out!

The Button: Grab the button and spread the word!!!

Things to remember: This is a family swap, a great way for kids to learn about the states. Postcards should be state themed. You can buy them or just make them yourself if you'd like to. The cost to send 50 postcards is $14. Did I miss anything? Please send me an email if you have any questions. More details will be posted soon!
